The Stirling Prize 2025
October 2025
By Mellis Haward

At this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize, we were reminded once again of the enduring value of architecture that is both beautiful and deeply human. Warm congratulations to Witherford Watson Mann Architects, whose Appleby Blue project has been recognised with both theStirling Prize and theNeave Brown Award. Their work stands as an uplifting demonstration of how thoughtful design can enhance lives, nurture community, and showcase the lasting worth of well‑made architecture.

Visiting Appleby Blue with our friends at the Future of London was an inspiring experience. The building’s warmth, the delight in its materiality, and the generosity of its spaces left a lasting impression — a powerful reminder of what’s possible when architecture is guided by care and curiosity.

The evening itself was a joyful celebration shared with theArchio team— including Oliver Bulleid, Christine Bowles, and Robert Fiehn — and we felt the energy of so many peers across the industry who are committed to positive change through design.

A special thank you to Anna Mason, João Garcia Sá, Kyle Blake‑Green, Frida Ravn Abildgaard, Eimear Egan, Katie Sexton, Simon Metstead, Connor Curley, Saaya Kamita and Sam Fraquelli— a team whose creativity, dedication and collaboration continue to drive our work forward every day.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do: design that supports great living, celebrates community, and makes a lasting difference.
